Care after you return home

The visit in İstanbul is one part of the journey. Follow-up is usually planned with the people and places available close to home.

Planning your visit

The weeks after you return

Follow-up timing is tailored to your treatment and clinical review. This is the usual shape of a plan, not a fixed schedule.

  1. Around one week

    Your own ophthalmologist

    A local check

A check with your own ophthalmologist is usually arranged after you return, with the relevant information shared with the treating team.

  2. Around four weeks

    Remote review

    A conversation with the team

The coordination team usually reviews the update and helps keep the communication between you, your local clinician and the treating team clear.

  3. Around three months

    European office

    Follow-up close to home

Where appropriate, a European office can help coordinate a follow-up conversation and the handover of reports without another trip to İstanbul.

Your office in Europe

The European offices are there for the conversations and records that can be handled closer to home after your visit.

At every office

  • A follow-up appointment close to home, without flying.
  • Handover of the reports you brought home, and of anything a later check produces.
  • Coordination with your own ophthalmologist when a finding needs their opinion.
  • A referral letter for your own ophthalmologist, on request.

If something is not right

Your written plan names the contact route for your situation. Use it to keep your local clinician and the treating team connected.

If you think you have an eye emergency, go to the nearest eye casualty first, then call us.

  1. Use the contact details in your plan

Start with the route your coordinator recorded for you, so the right people receive the same information.

  2. Include your local ophthalmologist

Your own ophthalmologist can share the findings of an in-person check with the treating team when that is needed.

  3. Keep the written records together

The reports and contact details from your visit make it easier for each team involved to understand the same history.

What you take home

The records from your visit are prepared so the next clinician involved has a clear starting point.

Your own ophthalmologist

Your own ophthalmologist remains an important part of care after you return. The coordination team can help make sure the treating team receives the reports and questions that need to be shared.

How does follow-up work from home?

A typical plan includes a check with your local ophthalmologist about one week after you return, a remote review with the coordination team at around four weeks, and another clinical check near three months when needed. Your local ophthalmologist performs the in-person examinations, while the coordination team gathers the reports and keeps the treating team informed.

What happens if a follow-up finding needs another procedure?

The local ophthalmologist, coordination team and treating team review the information together. They then discuss the appropriate next conversation and whether another visit to İstanbul should be considered.

How does my own ophthalmologist receive information from the visit?

You take home written records from the visit, and the coordination team can help share the relevant reports with your own ophthalmologist when needed.
